How Do I Develop Friendships as Part of a Couple?

Couples, even married couples, may need friendships outside of their relationship to feel truly fulfilled. In this article, a 51-year-old woman recently lost her confidante to leukemia and has recently realized that, while she loves her husband, her conversation with him will be limited once all of their children are out of the house. Her husband believes he should be able to fill the role of both husband and best friend, but the need for friendship is something separate. The woman was advised to speak with her husband and explain the need for female companionship.
