How to Argue

No one likes to argue with their partner but surprisingly, fighting is a healthy part of our relationships, if it is done the right way. Healthy arguments are all about listening to and understanding each other. Unhealthy arguments are about getting the last word or “winning.” Research shows that fighting, within the rules, will actually strengthen a marriage. It is important to give your loved one undivided attention when in the middle of a disagreement. Use statements that start with the word “I.” Validate what your significant other has said. Repeat their words to see if you understand. And remember, you are in this for the long run.
