What to Do if Your Spouse Has Depression

When one partner in a marriage is depressed, it can certainly take a toll on the other partner. Fortunately, there are things that can be done to help the non-depressed spouse understand the situation and in doing that help keep the marriage healthy. To begin with, it is important to not take the depression personally. It can be dangerous to think that you can cheer up someone who is depressed or cure their depression through love because it can create the idea of failure when these things fail to cure the depression. It is important to remember that depression does require professional treatment as well as spousal support.
