Your Smartphone May Be Powering Down Your Relationship

Sexuality counselor Ian Kerner writes that while technology may keep us connected to the world, it may also be responsible for disconnecting personal relationships. A recent study from the University of Essex found that people who have personal discussions with a cell phone nearby felt they had a lower quality relationship and less empathy from their partners, even if neither person was actually using the phone, than people who had personal discussions with no phone present. Some other studies have found that cell phones distract people from the moment, while others show that three out of five people with smartphones check them at least once an hour.
