Does Having Siblings Help Your Marriage?

A new study from Ohio State University shows that a person’s marriage will last longer depending on how many siblings they grew up with. This conclusion was arrived at from data on 57,061 adults collected from 1972 to 2012. Douglas Downey, who co-authored the study, explained to CBSNews.com that their findings showed that if a person had a sibling, their divorce rate decreased by 2% for each additional sibling up to a total of seven, while the “only-children” were less likely to marry in general and also more likely to divorce. Downey has several ideas why having a larger family might translate into better marriages.
